The all-time Bundesliga goal-scoring ranking
Since the league began in 1963-64, 56 players have reached 100 or more Bundesliga goals. The top of the list has been stable for decades, with Müller first to 100 in 1969-70 and the leader since 1970.
| Rank | Player | Country | Goals | Appearances | Goals per game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Gerd Müller | Germany | 365 | 427 | 0.85 |
| 2 | Robert Lewandowski | Poland | 312 | 384 | 0.81 |
| 3 | Klaus Fischer | Germany | 268 | 535 | 0.50 |
| 4 | Jupp Heynckes | Germany | 220 | 369 | 0.60 |

Two details separate the top two from the rest. Müller scored all 365 goals for Bayern Munich. Lewandowski’s 312 came in two spells: 74 for Borussia Dortmund and 238 for Bayern. Fischer and Heynckes, in third and fourth, needed far more matches to reach their totals, so their per-game rates are much lower.

Where Harry Kane stands
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. By the end of 2025-26 he had 98 league goals in 94 appearances, the fastest such tally in the competition’s history. He then reached his 100th Bundesliga goal on 18 September 2026, and the same table lists him on 101 goals from 98 appearances, a rate of 1.03 per game.
That rate is the key number. Müller’s 0.85 and Lewandowski’s 0.81 are the best of the established greats, and Kane is above both. Catching Müller’s total is a different matter: Kane would need around 264 more goals, which is a long-term question of age and durability rather than form. You can follow his progress on his BetsyScore player profile.

Single-season records
The single-season mark belongs to Lewandowski, who scored 41 goals in 2020-21. That passed the 40 Müller scored for Bayern in 1971-72, a record that stood for almost 50 years. Lewandowski and Müller also share the record for most top scorer awards, with seven each. Lewandowski’s five in a row is the longest streak.
Recent winners of the Torjägerkanone
The top scorer of each season receives the Torjägerkanone, a trophy sponsored by the magazine Kicker and awarded since 1966. The last seven winners show how dominant Bayern’s number nine has been.
| Season | Winner | Club | Goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2019-20 | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 34 |
| 2020-21 | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 41 |
| 2021-22 | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | 35 |
| 2022-23 | Niclas Füllkrug / Christopher Nkunku | Werder Bremen / RB Leipzig | 16 |
| 2023-24 | Harry Kane | Bayern Munich | 36 |
| 2024-25 | Harry Kane | Bayern Munich | 26 |
| 2025-26 | Harry Kane | Bayern Munich | 36 |
Source: Bundesliga top scorers by season, cross-checked with the league’s own report on 2025-26.
The 2022-23 season is the outlier. Without a Bayern striker at the top, Füllkrug and Nkunku shared the award on 16 goals, the lowest winning total in this period. In 2025-26 Kane finished on 36 goals after a hat-trick on Matchday 34, and became the first player to win the award in each of his first three Bundesliga seasons. Only Lewandowski had previously won it three years running. Deniz Undav of VfB Stuttgart was the nearest challenger with 19.
The gap between first and second in 2025-26 was 17 goals. That is why many fans now treat the Bundesliga as two races: the title for the top scorer, and a separate contest for second place.
The 2026-27 scoring race
The 2026-27 table changes every matchday, and early-season rankings are unreliable. After only a handful of games, a player on five goals can sit level with a striker who has had two penalties, and a single hat-trick can reorder the top ten. Three habits help when you read an early table:
- Check games played. Teams do not always have the same number of fixtures completed, especially after midweek European matches.
- Separate penalties from open play. A scorer with three penalties among six goals is a different case from one with six goals from the run of play.
- Look at minutes and expected goals. A forward who scores with few chances is likely to cool off. One who creates high-quality chances without scoring often catches up.
Kane remains the reference point. His 2025-26 total of 36 came in 31 appearances, and his Bayern teammates, including Luis Díaz and Michael Olise, share the finishing load. Bayern supply the largest number of top-ten scorers in most seasons, so any title race outside Munich tends to show up first in goals per game for Stuttgart, Dortmund, Leverkusen and Leipzig forwards.
Ways to follow the scoring charts compared
There is no shortage of places to look up the Bundesliga scorer table. They differ in what they are designed to do. Here is a comparison by type, without naming individual sites, on the criteria that matter to a reader.
| Option | Best for | Strengths | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| The league’s official website | Verified end-of-season rankings and award news | Authoritative and carefully checked | Less depth on predictions and match context |
| Encyclopedic reference lists | All-time records and historical tables | Complete history, easy to cite | Updated by editors, so recent numbers can lag or differ between pages |
| General sports media stats pages | A quick top-scorer ranking | Familiar, simple tables | Usually goals and games only, with little forward-looking data |
| Fan-run record databases | Deep archive browsing | Season-by-season lists | Variable update speed and sourcing |
| BetsyScore | Following scorers alongside live matches, predictions and momentum | Scores that refresh every few seconds, player profiles, lineups, AI win probabilities | Focus is on matches and player data rather than a long-form historical archive |
Numbers can differ between pages. In our own check, one source gave Kane 98 league goals at the end of 2025-26 and another listed 101 after four early 2026-27 matches had been added. Neither is wrong: they are snapshots on different dates. Always check the date on a scorer table before you quote it.
What a goals column does not tell you
A ranking by goals alone leaves out three things a data-minded reader usually wants: how many matches a player started, how many of those goals were penalties, and how the team around the striker is performing. Our approach is to connect the scorer to the match. A striker’s profile sits next to the fixture, the predicted win probability and the lineup, so you can see whether a forward is likely to start before a matchday begins.
Our perspective: why the scorer chart is a match-day tool
We build BetsyScore around live football data, so we see the Bundesliga top scorer list as a starting point rather than an answer. A ranking tells you who has scored. It does not tell you who is about to.
Three features of the current Bundesliga shape how we read it. First, Bayern’s attack is so productive that individual totals depend heavily on one player’s fitness. Kane’s 36 goals in 31 appearances in 2025-26 show how much volume a single forward can generate when he plays regularly. Second, the gap behind him is large, so the real uncertainty each season is who finishes second and third. Third, expected goals and recent form separate sustainable scoring from a short hot streak.
That is why our predictions combine expected goals, recent form and head-to-head records into a win-probability percentage, and why the momentum view shows which side is on top minute by minute. Used together, they answer a different question from a scorer table: which team is creating the chances that feed those numbers. For readers who follow both-teams-to-score markets, the same logic applies. A high-scoring striker matters less than whether both defenses are leaking chances.
Our view is simple. Use the all-time list for context and the live table for the race, then check the match data before deciding what a number means.

Follow the Bundesliga with BetsyScore
If you want the scorers in context, start with the live scores page, where matches refresh every few seconds. Before kick-off, the AI predictions show win probabilities built from expected goals, recent form and head-to-head records, and the BTTS predictions cover both-teams-to-score probabilities. Our Bundesliga player ratings page ranks the league’s top performers beyond raw goals, and the Bundesliga winners page shows which clubs have won the most titles.
Upcoming fixtures with predictions and lineups include Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt. Both pages list the expected starters, which is the quickest way to see whether a leading scorer is playing.
How to use scorer data well
A few rules keep the numbers honest.
- Compare rates, not totals, across eras. Müller played 427 league games for his 365 goals. Fischer needed 535 for 268. Goals per game makes the contrast fair.
- Note the competition. The totals here are Bundesliga league goals. Cup, Champions League and international goals are counted separately.
- Cite the date. Scorer tables are snapshots, so record the matchday when you copy a figure.
- Treat shared awards as shared. In 2022-23 two players finished on 16, and both are recorded as winners.
These habits matter most for writers, analysts and tipsters, who often copy a total from one page and compare it with another.
FAQ
