Alan Shearer and the Premier League's greatest scorers
Since its launch in 1992 the Premier League has become the most-watched league in the world, and its all-time scoring chart is topped by a player from its earliest years. Alan Shearer's 260 goals for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United remain untouched, a record that has stood for two decades and counting.
Harry Kane (213) and Wayne Rooney (208) are the only other players past 200, chasing a mark that has proved extraordinarily hard to approach. Kane's tally is now fixed after his move to Bayern Munich, leaving Mohamed Salah (193), the highest-scoring overseas player in the competition's history, as the leading active goalscorer still adding to his total for Liverpool.
The list is a roll-call of Premier League icons across every era: Andy Cole (187) and Sergio Agüero (184), midfielder Frank Lampard (177), the highest-scoring midfielder in the list, and Arsenal's Thierry Henry (175), whose artistry defined the ‘Invincibles’ era.
Because the ranking counts only goals scored since 1992, it is a record of the Premier League itself rather than of English football all-time: prolific First Division scorers from earlier decades do not feature. Among active players, Salah and Tottenham's Son Heung-min continue to climb, but Shearer's 260 remains a long way off for everyone.
